A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE METCALFE YOUTH CHOIR FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS WITHIN THEIR COMMUNITY.

WHEREAS, the Metcalfe Youth Choir has been a positive influence on the youth of Metcalfe and young people throughout the Delta; and

WHEREAS, Cedric Sturdevant, a Metcalfe resident who has dedicated his life to improving the quality of life for the young people in the area, organized the Metcalfe Youth Choir in 1994, to give the youth of Metcalfe an alternative to crime, drugs, alcohol and other negative forces; and

WHEREAS, an inspiration to the town of Metcalfe, the choir consists of about 40 young energetic people with ages ranging from six to twenty; and

WHEREAS, the Metcalfe Youth Choir has performed for a number of churches, social groups and community organizations and devotes many hours to many senior citizen groups throughout the State of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, in addition to their many performances, the Metcalfe Youth Choir has opened for the Mississippi Mass Choir and several other spiritual groups in the state; and

WHEREAS, over the years, the Metcalfe Youth Choir has developed into a solid fellowship of young people who have the opportunity to set examples of what people with a vision can accomplish; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the Metcalfe Youth Choir for their outstanding accomplishments in the community and extend our heartiest wishes for success in all their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Metcalfe Youth Choir and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
